Director of Industrial Cybersecurity
John Cusimano is the Director of Industrial Cybersecurity with aeSolutions. He has over 20 years of experience and has performed countless control system cybersecurity vulnerability and cyber risk assessments in the process industries. John has also overseen and participated in the security testing and certification of several control and safety systems. He is a leader in the development of ICS cybersecurity standards and best practices, is chairman of the ISA 99 zones & conduits committee, and co-chair of the ISA 99 product development committee. John was instrumental in the development of the ISASecure certification scheme and is a US expert to the IEC TC65 WG10 committee. He is a Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE), a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and a Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP). John has a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Clarkson University in New York. He is the lead course developer and instructor for the ISA series of cybersecurity training courses and has been teaching the ISA courses since 2012.
Joe Veasey, CFSE
Functional Safety Consultant
Joe Veasey is a Functional Safety Training Specialist with aeSolutions. He has over 16 years of experience in safety and has provided consultation, design and training services to clients in the process industries. Joe has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alaska, is a licensed Professional Engineer and a Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE). He has been teaching ISA courses since 2015.
Mike Scott, CFSE
Exec VP – Global Process Safety Technology
Mike Scott is the Executive Vice President of Global Process Safety Technology with aeSolutions. He has over 25 years of experience in risk analysis, safety instrumented systems and control systems engineering. Mike has performed conceptual design, detailed design, configuration, commissioning and startup on many projects in the process industry. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in four states, a Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE), an ISA Fellow, a voting member of both the ISA 84 and IEC 61511 committees on safety systems, chair of the ISA 84 Fire & Gas working group, and has 6 patents on safety system lifecycle tools and implementation. Mike has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Masters of Engineering from the University of South Carolina. Mike is an ISA course developer as well as instructor and has been teaching ISA courses for more than 10 years.
Paul Gruhn, CFSE, ISA84 Expert
Global Functional Safety Consultant
Paul Gruhn is the Global Functional Safety Consultant with aeSolutions. He has provided consulting, engineering, training and support services for companies worldwide in the process industries for more than 25 years. Paul is a 25 year member of the ISA 84 standard committee, an ISA Fellow, the developer and primary instructor of many of the ISA courses on safety systems, the author of two ISA textbooks and chapters in other books, and over two dozen published articles. He was the developer of the first commercial safety system modeling software over 20 years ago. Paul is a licensed Professional Engineer, a Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE), and an ISA 84 SIS Expert. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. Paul was instrumental in the development of the ISA SIS certificate program and has been developing and teaching ISA courses for 20 years.
Geoff Barnard, CFSE
Geoff Barnard is a Principal Specialist with aeSolutions. He has over ten years of experience designing and implementing Safety Instrumented Systems and has provided consultation to clients in the process industries around the world. Geoff authored a chapter in the Handbook of Loss Prevention Engineering and is a member of the ISA 18 and 84 standards committees. He a licensed Professional Engineer and a Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE). Geoff has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University. He has been teaching ISA courses since 2015.
Marco (Marc) Ayala
Senior Principal Specialist
Marc Ayala is a Senior Project Manager with aeSolutions. Marc has been involved in process automation and safety and is active in the chemical sector cybersecurity effort working alongside the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for securing the private sector. Marc has trained extensively with Idaho National Labs with colleagues focusing on ICS-CERT. He has worked as an end user from I&E and I&C throughout his career handling advanced process control, maintenance and design of enterprise historians, and has worked with enterprise-IT to perfect a direct balance of ICS/SCADA Industrial-IT and demarcation with Enterprise-IT. Marc has secured multiple chemical plant processes in the US for CFATS (Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards) and has secured facilities in the Netherlands creating the first global ICS/SCADA security operations center (SOC) based in Houston Texas. He has been teaching ISA courses since 2015.
